Money / line / lure stuff

Want to shorten the learning curve? The only stupid question is the one you don't ask!

Sounds like you have a great plan! My only suggestion would be to maybe look at the Pinnacle Slyder baitcaster instead of the Daiwa Megaforce. The Daiwa has the Twitchin' Bar, but the Pinnacle has the Slyder wheel that I think would be even better.

Here's a link to it at Wal-Mart:

Does the Slyder come in left hand retrieve? And what's the deal with that slyder? What does it do?

You're welcome Wyatt. It sounds like you have a pretty good plan there. The upside is that at 15 you already know that things are much more rewarding when you work for them. Learning to use jigs and slow moving baits is always a good first step.

I think we've all slammed a few car doors on rods. Trust me, it sucks alot more when it is a really expensive rod.......

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it comes in left hand.

The thumb wheel on the side you roll and it turns the handle for you smoothly. Not twitchy.

There is a photo demo of how it works here:

Cool reel, but I reel left. I dunno why people reel left for spinning tackle and reel right for baitcasting... what's up with that? Is there a secret that I'm not let in on?

Oh yeah, what brand of fluorocarbon line do you guys use/recommend? I read a Tacketour comparison of a bunch of different lines and the most decently priced, all around good line was the BPS XPS fluorocarbon. It's like $17.00 for 200yrds, which I guess isn't bad for fluoro.
